Description

Description: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate ZNF222 in samples. An antibody specific for ZNF222 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any ZNF222 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for ZNF222 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of ZNF222 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.
Overview: The zinc finger 222 protein (ZNF 222) is a transcription factor that belongs to the Krueppel type C2H2 zinc finger protein. A transcription factor is a protein that binds DNA to specific sites where it can regulate transcription. According to data obtained from the NCBI, the zinc finger 222 transcription factor would, supposedly, have a transcription repression role, regulating transcription, cell division and chromosome partition. Its expression increased from stage A to B and, then, was reduced in stage C. Its behavior in sepsis progression may reflect the body's attempt to block the production of proteins whose effects may be harmful to the body (e.g., cytokines).
